Janet

Hi. I attended Farnborough when it was a Bilateral Grammar School in 1956 to 1961 and catered for boys and girls. We had some really good teachers, Miss Cullen travelled from Newark every day - she was Deputy Head, Mr Chalkley was a Science Teacher, Mrs Seath (later Mrs Chalkley) was an absolutely excellent music teacher and Mrs Lane Hall was a brilliant English Teacher. We also had Mr Sturtivant who was a really good Maths teacher and Miss Buttery who taught cookery. In the late 50's we were taught country dancing, ballroom dancing, tennis, athletics, hockey, rounders etc on top of the usual curricullum. We also put on plays including Shakespeare, concerts and had an annual fashion parade - usually items made in needlework lessons. I was in the school choir which used to win loads of cups at the Nottingham Music Festival every year. We also entered the Llangollen Music Festival and came 7th on the first time of entering. I can also remember going to "Let the Children Sing" which was a competition and held at the BBC Radio Studios at Bournville.
I had a really good education there but like most children and with hindsight could have done much better. However I had a good career at a Bank and have now retired.
Congratulations on your website.
