24 May 2004 - Gill Murray IMRT Fundraising
Pupils and staff rowed the equivalent of the English Channel to raise thousands of pounds in memory Gill Murray who recently died from cancer.
Before her death, Mrs Murray, the wife of Head of Lower School Paul Murray and the mother of two grown-up children, had set up The Gill Murray IMRT Fund to try to raise £100,000 to buy specialist equipment for the City Hospital to help diagnose and treat cancer patients.
Staff and students rallied to the cause and 100 of them in teams of ten raced one another on rowing machines over 35km, the equivalent of crossing the English Channel, to boost the fund.
Nottingham company Concept II donated the use of the rowing machines, a scoreboard projection screen and prizes.
Farnborough School Technology College hoped to raise around £5,000 towards the fund, but over £8,200 was raised! Well done to everyone who took part or sponsored a rower.
