4 Jun 2007 - Choir Competition Winners

From the Nottingham Evening Post 04 06 2007
Pupils at Farnborough School Technology College will warm up the audience for a leading opera company.

The choir won a competition, which included a prize package worth £1,000, and will go on stage at the Theatre Royal ahead of the Opera North performance of Rigoletto on June 6.

They will get a sneak peek behind the scenes during an exclusive backstage tour and learn about theatre life before watching the professionals.

The competition was organised by Yorkshire Bank, which sponsors Opera North and its education programme, Opera1.

Janet Myers, Yorkshire Bank's head of brand, said: "Farnborough School Technology College's musical talent shone through in its entry and this is a great opportunity for its pupils to perform in one of Nottingham's most prestigious venues and in front of a large crowd.

"We're really pleased that this competition has engaged schools in the local community and ignited an interest in opera."

Clare Watson, Farnborough School Technology College's head of music, entered the choir into the competition.
