A Growing Technology College
Among the excitement of the recent Open Evening there was also some concern for those who do not live within our immediate catchment area and we did our best to reassure them that as the school continues to grow, there will again be more places available next September.
For the first time there is also the opportunity of gaining a place on the basis of having a special aptitude in Technology. We can admit 16 pupils under that category as a Technology College, and those who like the opportunity of taking the test at the school shortly.
The Governing Body thought very carefully about this before coming to their decision. We are, and wish to remain, a school which serves our local community.
Those who already have children in the school and live in the local area should therefore have no difficulty in being given a place for any of your children who may be joining us in the future.
However, as we are expanding we are drawing from a wider area, while at the same time being held accountable for the results which the school achieves.
As a Technology College, as well as being Farnborough School, we are receiving additional funds to improve the resources and opportunities available to your children.
In return, if we are to continue to receive those funds, we must show the improvements to which we are committed. Where our pupils can show that they can take particular advantage of those aspects of our work through the results they achieve, EVERY child will continue to benefit as the government continues to provide us with those extra funds.
As a Technology College it is not only Farnborough which benefits, but also our local schools and community. We have been working with our local primary schools and local secondary school to provide resources to improve their own ICT facilities and to enable their pupils to take the International Grade in Office Technology Award (INGOTs). As many of you will know a large number of our own pupils also took this award at Farnborough last term and we are now a INGOT Academy.
More details will be available soon of what we have been able to achieve in our first year. There are for example, some very interesting developments taking place to help with literacy which is still an important area of the school which needs to be improved.
