The Home School Agreement
The Home/School Agreement was introduced some years ago in consultation with parents, and was reissued last year. The agreement also formed part of the presentation which we gave to next year's parents and pupils. It is really important if we are to work closely with parents to ensure the proper care and development of your child is not subjected to the interference caused by bad habits, or the poor behaviour of other pupils.
In terms of behaviour, we are delighted with the increasing number of pupils who are now trained as school peer counsellors. These pupils are excellent examples of students who act with a sense of responsibly which, with your help will develop.
As part of the school counselling service we will also be reviewing our anti-bullying and anti racist policies again shortly and will let you know the outcome of that. We seldom suffer racist behaviour but following two reported incidents involving racist language last year, we are sending letters out to parents of pupils whose ethnic origin is other than white British. We are always dismayed by this type of behaviour and will never overlook it, so as part of our monitoring wish to know if any parent would like to contact us with a view to discussing our policies in respect of all equal opportunities issues.
It has always been one of the strengths of the school that differences are a cause for celebration and the start of the term saw a wonderful assembly on this theme when we launched our anti-racist poetry competition in memory of Chloe who died so tragically last year. her mother attended the assembly and the event clearly had a real impact on the whole school.
At times of difficulty the real spirit of Farnborough has shone through, and none more so than last year when parents, staff and pupils 'rowed across the channel' to raise money for the Gill Murray fund. It was probably the most difficult year that the school has experienced with the loss of both a pupil and Mr Murray's wife and we were so pleased to welcome him back this term. We shall do our best to continue to support both Chloe's family and Mr Murray in the time ahead.
