The history, the tradition and the future of Farnborough School
Farnborough School opened on 1st September 1954. In 1958 the school became a girls bilateral school. In 1974 the school became a co-educational comprehensive school.
Today Farnborough is a well established city comprehensive day school currently providing education for well over 800 boys and girls. In recent years a number of alterations and improvements to the buildings and site have been carried out, and the school environment is a pleasant one with views over open countryside, an adjoining wood, extensive sports fields and tennis courts. The school provides a safe, secure and welcoming environment.
We have been highly successful over a number of years and were awarded £8000 in 2001 by the City of Nottingham in recognition of the quality of the education at Farnborough.
On the basis of our achievements, we were fully supported by the Local Education Authority in our successful 2002 bid for Specialist Technology College status.
This success was confirmed by OFSTED in 1999 which said that the school's ethos, senior leadership, management and teamwork are all 'excellent' and in 2004 "Leadership and management are very good, with outstanding features, and the
leadership of the headteacher is excellent." We have received the Sport of England Sportsmark Award for sporting excellence.
Above all, we are a school which cares deeply about the quality of the education which we provide and while your children are with us we will support and challenge each one. We know that every child has special talents which we need to unlock so that they gain the skills and confidence to flourish.
In our view this is best achieved in a calm and purposeful atmosphere where everyone shows respect for themselves, each other and their school, and feels secure in a disciplined and co-operative working environment.
We value each child and place their learning at the centre of all that we do. We believe that by working closely with you in sharing high expectations, trust and support, we will get to know them well and ensure that each one succeeds.
Many of our parents are former pupils, while the number of requests for places continues to grow. Employers and those in receiving educational establishments are also delighted with our pupils and speak very highly of them and how well prepared they are for the next stage of their lives. We are proud of the young people they become and find such positive comments a genuine endorsement of our priorities and achievements.
If there is anything further you would like to know please do not hesitate to contact us. We will be pleased to show you around the school and to answer any questions that you may have.
