The history, the tradition and the future of Farnborough School

Welcome to Farnborough School which first opened in September 1954. In 1958 it became a girls' bilateral school, then a co-educational comprehensive school in 1974 and now we are a well established and over-subscribed Technology College catering for approximately 1000 boys and girls in September 2009.

Our location is a pleasant one with views over open countryside, an adjoining wood and extensive sports fields which provides a safe and welcoming environment.

We are rightly proud of our most recent "Outstanding" OFSTED Report which has been gained on the basis of sustained success over a number of years including our two previous "very good" and "excellent" reports.

We were the first school to be awarded the City of Nottingham Achievement Award, gained the Sport England Sports-Mark for sporting excellence and we have attracted considerable additional investment through government and LA funds. These have seen our science labs upgraded, the development of  a new Cyber Café, the provision of a new £600,000 Year 7 base, a new £1,000,000 Sports Hall and the completion of an additional Technology extension with the money which our Technology Status has brought.

We have benefitted from extensive ICT provision which is upgraded on an ongoing basis and our involvement in a number of national, leading edge initiatives including the Excellence in Cities Programme and the Transforming Secondary Education Initiative. Most recently we have achieved the Healthy Schools Award, been re-designed as a High Performing Specialist School and we are shortly to be completely rebuilt under the Building Schools for the Future Programme.

As a Learning Community we care deeply about the quality of the education we provide for our young people and we have been delighted with the repeated endorsements of our work by our pupils, parents, visitors and Inspectors. 

By providing both support and challenge we wish to unlock the potential of each pupil so that they gain the skills and confidence to flourish at Farnborough and in their lives beyond school. We believe that this is best achieved in a calm and purposeful atmosphere where everyone shows respect for themselves, each other and their school, and feels secure in a disciplined and co-operative working environment.

Many of our parents are former pupils, while the number of requests for places continues to grow. Employers and those in post-16 receiving educational establishments are also delighted with our pupils and speak very highly of them and how well prepared they are for the next stage of their lives. We are proud of the young people they become and find such positive comments a genuine endorsement of our priorities and achievements.
